July 8th - SYC Cortez Outstation

We left this morning a little before 7am to head up to Cortez.  It's still pretty hazy from the BC wildfires so will be interesting to see if & when that disappears.  It was 65' by 10:00 - both water & air.  We aren't seeing many boats on our way north & understand there aren't many in Desolation so far.  August is when Desolation usually fills up.  We got to Cortez at noon.  The docks are not full - about 14 boats so far.

Visited with our neighbors, Nancy & Dale, & went for a walk with Nancy & Cricket (her white poodle).  Tomorrow morning we're going kayaking & Cricket goes with her.

Around 4:00 Barbara, the baker, comes down to the dock to sell her baked goods.  Today we bought 2 scones & 4 cookies.  She does wonderful pies, assorted cookies, brownies, pies & breads (whole wheat & faccacia).  I also got some strawberry marmalade jam that she made.  It will be great on our goat cheese logs.  Tonight's dinner will be cheeseburgers, after our cocktails.  I've been drinking vodka with cranberry juice & lime & Rod's usual is scotch.  Not enuf room in the frig for wine yet.

It got up to 80' today & we actually saw blue sky for the first time in days.  The caretaker here said the weather has been wonderful all summer.  They did get some haze & a little bit of ash but just for a day.
